Question of the Week

Are there new insights into the positivity rate in pediatrics for symptomatic and asymptomatic patients? And, how does that relate to antibody testing recommendations? Our positivity average for symptomatic pediatric patients over the past 6 weeks is 7.7% with no significant trend up or down. Our positivity average for asymptomatic pediatric patients is 0.34%, ranging between 0-0.54% over the past month. As it relates to antibody testing, our clinical lab experts, ID division, infection control team, and safety leadership do not believe there are current clear indications for antibody testing to answer clinical questions for individual patients. The accuracy remains uncertain, and even if accurate, what it actually means in terms of immune status is unknown.
