HealthVine Updates
Three Years Down, Many More to Go
HealthVine was established in 2021 in an effort to build a healthier community where all children can thrive. Since its inception, HealthVine programs have proudly and consistently gone above and beyond to ensure that members have access to the support they need to live their healthiest lives. This report provides an overview of the current state of HealthVine, delving deeper into how HealthVine programs not only exceed expectations, but truly go the extra mile for members.
The HealthVine Population
Membership
The launch of new Ohio Medicaid managed care plans in CY22 and CY23 and the re-start of Medicaid redetermination efforts have affected HealthVine’s membership volume since CY21. HealthVine looks forward to expanding its reach and supporting a broader Medicaid member base in Southwest Ohio.

Behind the Numbers
Barriers to child well-being have an undeniable impact on youth and families. But there is also a tremendous impact and cost to the system when children are not enabled to live their healthiest lives.
Four of the top five most costly conditions among HealthVine members were mental and behavioral health diagnoses. This data points to what many are already observing—that the prevalence of mental and behavioral health diagnoses among children and youth continues to grow, even among those who are not considered to have complex behavioral needs. Because of this, HealthVine’s population health program continues to emphasize integration between physical and behavioral health in the pursuit of whole-child health and well-being.
Launch of HealthVine OhioRISE
In July 2022, in partnership with Aetna Better Health, the Ohio Department of Medicaid launched Resilience through Integrated Systems and Excellence, also known as OhioRISE. This series of state-wide initiatives, which includes a specialized managed care program for youth with complex behavioral health needs, was created to stem the rising youth mental health crisis across the state.
To increase and support comprehensive care coordination for youth with complex behavioral health needs, HealthVine was selected to serve as an OhioRISE Care Management Entity (CME). Care coordinators support Medicaid-covered youth through their 20th birthday who live in Eastern Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Adams, Scioto, and Lawrence counties.
The HealthVine OhioRISE program is the newest program under the HealthVine and Cincinnati Children’s Office of Population Health umbrella, and the seventh overall to have been established within the past three years. Read more about the other HealthVine programs here.
“Connecting youth and caregivers to more intensive in-home support and ensuring they have the tools they need to navigate behavioral health challenges are some of the valuable contributions we have made since the program launched. We are encouraged by the progress our families are making in managing their children’s mental health needs.”

Partnerships
Partnerships with community primary care, behavioral health organizations, community agencies and non-profits are critical in providing holistic care to our members. In CY23, HealthVine launched a financial incentive program for primary care and behavioral health partners to further support organizations caring for our members. The launch of this program led to the expansion of new strategic partnerships, with more to come in CY24. Here's a look at HealthVine partners as of Dec. 31, 2023:

HealthVine Spotlight: Produce Pop-Up Shops
During CY22 and CY23, the HealthVine Care Management team hosted eight produce pop-up shops in partnership with the Freestore Foodbank. These shops provided free healthy fruits and vegetables to over 700 families in our community. We look forward to continuing our pop-up shops in 2024!
